The Prophecy: The Messiah will bring faith in the God of Israel and salvation to the Gentiles

The Prophecy: The Messiah will bring faith in the God of Israel and salvation to the Gentiles

“Indeed, he says, ‘It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob,
and to restore the preserved of Israel.
I will also give you as a light to the Gentiles,

that you may be my salvation to the end of the earth.'” Isaiah 49:6

“It will happen in that day that the nations will seek the Root of Jesse, who stands as a banner of the Gentiles; and his resting place will be glorious.” Isaiah 11:10

The Messiah will not only be a source of blessing to Israel, but he will bless all the nations as well. The first prophecy speaks of the Messiah as “my servant” who will be “a light to the Gentiles.” The second prophecy calls the Messiah the “Root of Jesse,” whom the Gentiles will seek. Jesse was the father of King David, and an ancestor of the Messiah. Rabbi David Altschuler writes: “‘Root of Jesse’ — the Messiah comes forth from the Root of Jesse… Yes all those who worship the stars [the Gentiles] will seek the Messiah, and they will follow him to do all what he commands them.”

The Fulfillment of the Prophecy: Through Jesus the Gentiles have believed in the God of Israel

Jesus commanded his disciples to bring the Good News of salvation to the Gentiles: “This Good News of the Kingdom will be preached in the whole world for a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come… Go therefore, and teach all nations.” Matthew 24:14; 28:19
